CITING NEED FOR COMMON SENSE SOLUTIONS, CAPITO FILES FOR RE-ELECTION TO CONGRESS

Charleston WV - Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito filed official paperwork to run for re-election for a sixth term to the House of Representatives from West Virginia's Second Congressional District today with the West Virginia Secretary of State's office.  She released the following statement about her re-election effort:

It has been my honor to represent the people of West Virginia's Second District in Washington for almost ten years.  When I first ran for Congress, I made a simple promise to put the interest of West Virginians first.  That remains my top focus and, over the last decade, I have sought to work in a bipartisan manner to find common sense solutions that create jobs, improve our economy, expand access to health care, and protect our citizens.  Today, West Virginia and our nation face serious challenges.  From record job losses and staggering deficits to a greater demand for energy independence and increased security threats, it's critical that we have strong leadership to stand up for the interests of our state and the interests of our people.

Simply put, West Virginians want leaders in Washington who will listen to their concerns and focus on the issue that matters most: the economy and jobs.  They're tired of a Congress and a President that campaigned on compromise but governed as partisans.  They're tired of over-zealous regulators that put an anti-coal agenda before any concern for the jobs of West Virginia miners.  They're tired of seeing unemployment get worse while taxpayer dollars went to bank bailouts and failed "stimulus" plans.  And, they're tired of deficit-spending that will only leave our children and grandchildren buried under mountains of debt.

With so much at stake in Washington today, I will continue to stand as an independent voice for West Virginians.  I look forward to the campaign ahead and the opportunity to continue my conversations with residents across the Second District about the common sense, bipartisan solutions that are so critical to addressing our nation's challenges.

Congresswoman Capito was first elected to the House in 2000.  Prior to be elected to Congress, Capito served two terms in the West Virginia House of Delegates.  She resides in Charleston, WV with her husband Charlie.  She is the only Republican member of the state's congressional delegation.
