Shelley Moore Capito has represented the 2nd Congressional District and West Virginia well. She deserves to be re-elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.

One of Capito's excellent traits is constituent services. She is always responsive to the needs of the people of West Virginia, doing whatever she can to help with their problems. And she is successful.

Capito always votes for the best interests of West Virginia regardless of partisan affiliation. What is best for West Virginia comes first with her even if it means going against her own party and her own president.

She is criticized for voting with President George W. Bush some 85 percent of the time. We would say 85 percent actually is low. We would expect a higher percentage from someone of the same party. We would suggest it takes some intestinal fortitude to vote against your party's congressional leaders and the leader of your party.

We would add that in some years, Capito's record of voting with the president and Republican colleagues in the House has been even lower, in the 70 percent range.

And she has been able to secure funding for quite a few projects and programs throughout the 2nd Congressional District, including several million dollars for the tri-county, such as

$5 million for the North Berkeley Sewer;

$200,000 for the Charles Washington Hall restoration study in Charles Town;

$7 million for rebuilding the Morgan County Courthouse through USDA Rural Development;

$500,000 for the Raleigh Street Extension in Martinsburg;

$235,000 earmark for countywide police radio interoperability in Jefferson County;

$172,000 for the Paw Paw Senior Center;

$900,000 for the Inwood flood control project;

$350,000 RUS loan for the Harpers Ferry water project; and

$200,000 for Berkeley Springs' streetscape

to name only a few of the many projects and programs in Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties, from Paw Paw to Harpers Ferry for which Capito has obtained funding, totalling about $23.85 million.

That is impressive, especially when you consider she has not been in the majority party for a couple of her years in office, which demonstrates clearly that Capito is able to work with members of the other party.

Reaching across the aisle recently, she has joined in a truly bipartisan effort to develop an energy plan that will utilize West Virginia coal to gain independence from foreign oil.

Capito has been a strong supporter of veterans, seniors and women's issues.

Capito knows West Virginia and she knows the 2nd Congressional District. We would say she is a perfect fit for the 2nd District.

Capito has earned re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives.

We urge you to send her back to Congress to continue working for the good of the state and West Virginians. Vote for Shelley Moore Capito.
